I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Ryan, I'm 16 and live in the middle of nowhere Ks. I got an e-mail from Mike the other day and am proud to say I'm the newest member of Team Airfoilz. I've flown a Yak before, about a year ago, and was impressed, and have my first Airfoilz, an Edge, on the way now.

Because of the equipment I have, I will be building as light as possible. My goal is an AUW of 14 oz. I will leave the LG off to save weight, and do whatever I can to keep it down too. I'll be using the original Electrifly Rimfire and Dualsky 3s 620 packs. This setup hauls my 12 oz Byp Yak like you would not believe, so even on a 14 oz plane I'll still have enough power to satisfy me. I'm hoping it will show up Tuesday, since tomorrow's president's day. We'll see how it goes!

Cool!!! Congrats on making it on to the team, my friend. I think it's a really good thing to have a teenager on here, even though some people think it's bad. We (I'm 16 as well) can offer tons of info, people just have to listen. It's like at the LHS, I work there now (woot AirfoilZ is coming soon for me!) and I have had tons of people think I'm stupid. I'll use one example...

A guy came in looking for fuel for a .049 COX engine. I asked him what kind of fuel he was looking for and he looked at my like I was stupid. Well, then I explained to him that there are different types of fuel and that info didn't soak in one bit, and he told me he wanted a quart if possible. I showed him the only quart of airplane fuel we had and said "This will work with it, but it won't be perfect" since the percentage of the fuel was a little too much for such a small engine. He didn't think that was good enough, so I started showing him gallons and I told him that's all we have and you can either buy a gallon or take the quart. He looks at me completely angry and says "I'm going to go ask someone who actually knows what they're talking about" and he goes up to another employee named Billy-Bob (not really named that). He asks Billy-Bob the same question and Billy-Bob simply tells him "You might want to ask Justin (me) that, he's the airplane guy around here, but I'm pretty sure we have one quart that will work with it." The angry customer glares at me, buys the quart, and leaves. You guys don't know how bad I wanted to say "I told you so" but I'm pretty sure my smiling expression said it all:D :p

I'm also 16 :) Any new news ryan!? And going with ace, It's sometimes hard to gain their respect but lately I've been getting treated the same as anyone else =) I'm no by the smartest person but they will at least listen to my opion AND give it some thought!!

Sorry for the lack of updates guys!

I wound up going with a standard setup. Hyperion motor, PQ 1500s, 10x4.7 prop. Flies GREAT! I'm glad I didn't go lighter, and I'm actually thinking of going heavier to make it tumble better. The thing feels so light on the wing, and that says a lot coming from a guy who considers 3 oz/sq. ft wing loading heavy! lol

I've gotten 6 flights on it now, and they keep getting better. Finishing up the first flights trim work, and the wind's finally dying down so I can really put it through it's paces. Does all the low post stall stuff like a champ! I hope to get some pics of it tomorrow, and I'll post them here for ya. Next week's spring break, and I'll be sure to get some vids over it!

hello all, just finished my new edge540, im very pleased with the looks and maiden flight. it just occurred to me that i never checked the current limitations of the little micro deans connector..
im pulling 20c bursts and 13c continous does anyone know if this connector is sufficient or shoud i use the standard deans and added weight?

I would use the deans connector to be on the safe side. The added weight will not affect the performance of the plane.

thanks for that practical answer, but i was wondering if anyone has actually tested with meter for loss of amps

Sorry Paul and all other guys here...but I'm going to have to hold off on an AirfoilZ due to lack of money. Yes, I work at my LHS. Yes, I love airplanes. Sadly (for the airplanes, I'm psyched about this) my entire last pay check (well almost) went to Pole Vault camp in Arkansas. Pole vault in track is my favorite thing to do, and because the seniors graduated I'm top dog this year (as a sophomore...yikes) and I'm trying to improve as much as possible in it.

I only have funds for a small project, so I'm going to try my hand at scratch building a 3D plane for my yard (from plans of course, I don't have money to experiment). The materials cost for the scratch build is only 40 bucks...plus the hardware I bought the other day with the remnants of my paycheck (pushrods, a small sheet for 1/8 ply, Z bend pliers, 3/32" music wire with dubro 1 and 3/4 inch wheels along with 3/32" locking collars, and some EZ clevis). It should be a fun build, and should at least allow me to catch up with pay checks because it will probably take me 2 weeks or so to finish it because of all of the school stuff going on. I had 3 papers due this past week and I'm so stressed. I hate sophomore year:D When I get good in the front yard (the plane will be out of EPP:p ) I guess I'll send in a vid to Paul and see how it goes. Who knows, maybe I can make it on the team.
