You will be amazed becuase you are correct EPP fly like wetnoddles not Airfoilz they fly like a real plane and better than a balsa plane.

You are in for a treat! The Airfoilz fly SOOOOO MUCH BETTER than EPP...make sure you let us know how it goes! Let me know if you need any help. I hope to start a build thread on the Katana shortly.:D

Since nobody looks at the Edge 540FF thread, I'll ask here. First
Thanks Paul. Fast service.
Ordered the Edge yesterday. You ship yesterday. Got my order from Tower yesterday. Great Planes Reactor, Rimfire ????1250 motor, 35A ESC. Will be using 1800 lips's.
Enough, too much, for the Edge? If so, the Reactor hangs.
Also, another ? Park Flyer Recievers.....AMA briefly, range wise, model must be in sight at all times....I try to do that, no matter... Will one of those work...I have a Futaba 6EX on 2.4.
What to get.... thanks

You can build the warp out of it, are you saying that you glued it together and have a bow in it?

Our planes can handle power 200-250watts is fine.

I tried to edit my last post to add pics but there is a 15 minute deadline on edits. So here goes the updates with some pics of the I-beam spar. Also is there a canopy decal or are people just painting that part black?

Your decal is missing the canopy, I can mail you the decals for that.
The spar if built on a flat surface will not bow, but the bow does not look bad, in your case sliding in the wing may straighten it out just from the stress of the wings, have you dry fitted the spar in the wings yet?

In the pic it setting on a steel yardstick on a level counter top. It took the crown of the center piece of balsa or the wetness of the CA actually warped it. Anyway I'm thinking crown up?

I ordered some Microballoons and a Hacker hub today from 3DX and am waiting on the Microballoons before I get too far ahead of myself. So I haven't gotten into test fitting the wings. If you haven't mailed the wheels and parts list yet maybe you could put the canopy decal in with them?
Also is there supposed to be video's on the CD with the manual?

The way to glue the spar is apply glue to lets say 6" at a time on a flat surface working from the one end to the other, once you get the "t" glued than putting the other side on will keep it straight.
Tell ya what I will mail you out new wood with your order so you can try again with the spar OK?

I actually think the spar will work just was wondering if it was better to use it bow up or down. In the manual it shows some 3mm wing alignment tabs but im not sure if they are in the kit because I dont have the parts list.
I did a test fit of sliding the depron wings over the spar and I think the spar will be straight from the foam.

I'm pretty sure the wing tip end caps are also missing. I need end caps, wheels, parts list, canopy decal and maybe alignment tabs. If the 4 thin depron rectangles that have to be cut out are the tabs then I have them.
If I take a pic of all the stuff I have will you be able to tell what all im short from the photo? Thanks for being so responsive, I sort of feel like i'm being a pain in the butt. LOL

I know what your missing, it's 2 small depron sheets, no need to post a pic. I will mail it out tomorrow.

Im making some progress, I had to reglue parts of the spar because its a very tight fit when trying to twist the spar upright while in the wing. I should have the wing halves together today.
Motor mount looks nice and solid, I plan on having everything done that dont require microballoons by late tonight.
I have a Ultrafly B 06/15 motor that I used to fly my glueball MScomposit Unique on the bench. I maybe trying it on the Katana while I wait for Hacker to repair my A20-20L "setscrew stripped" .
Thanks Paul

I have aileron fairing gaps. With my wing pushed all the way forward and square with the fuse I have pretty big gaps on both sides of the plane.

Just trim the front of the tabs on the aileron fairings so that they slide forward all the way to the wing. You may also have to trim the edge of the tabs so they don't hit each other when both are put in place on the fuse.

I decided to start doing decals while waiting on parts. I think it would of been best to apply the decals before assembly or the tail decals will end up being a little small because the gaps between controll surfaces. But it still looks cool!

I cant wait to get this plane in the air, the Katana's body lines have always looked good to me. I also enjoyed flying the Katana's in Reflex XTR more than any of the other planes.
I have a giant park near my home with 4 soccer fields side by side surrounded by cornfields and beanfields. I never liked soccer at all before I started flying R/C but where there is soccer there is a airfield LOL.
Love foam planes.

What you guys using to trim your landing gear wire? Thats some tuff stuff, I have tried the wire cutters, tin snips and steel band nips. Basically everything but the hack saw. Im wondering if the ones in my kit might be for a bigger model plane.

I must be missing something here I am installing the landing gear and when I tighten the wire tie it pulls the landing gear wire out of the fuse. I dont see how they will stay attached.
Help!!!
The top of the landing gear wires are supposed to overlap where they are positioned in the hole in the landing gear block. If the they are cut too short, the gear will rotate and fall out of the block when the wire tie is installed. This can be corrected by using a piece of 3/32" ID brass or aluminum tubing as a joiner between the two wire pieces. A drop of thin CA will help keep the tube attached to the landing gear wires.

I plan on mounting a Rhino 3s 1250mah via velcro any idea on where I should do my CG on the Katana and do you think the APC 10x5E is a little too heavy a prop for the Hacker A20-20L ??

I set my CG at 4 inches behind the LE at the wing root. I prefer the APC 10x4.7SF prop on the A20-20L.
I see you got the landing gear fixed.

I recently purchased the Katana NX and love the design! However the manual is a little sketchy in spots so when trying to determine the wing spar root and tip distances I am having trouble as these are not listed in the manual [page 15 of 43]. The videos online say see the manual but the Katana NX is not listed in the table.
Can someone tell me what the correct Wing root and tip distances are for the wing spar?
paulg

The dimension are on page 15 and the dims are the same as the Yak-54 NX.

We do n ot have a build video for the NX, but we are gonna start to put some vids on youtube.
Having some trouble with the Katana build. It would be nice if the manual was written better and the disc that came with it actually had some videos on building it. This is more of a pain than my giant scale balsa planes. Are there any videos out on this plane and its build?

m am having some trouble with the tail section of the katana. Does the wooden balsa piece stay or do I remove? are the hinges slotted through this piece?
paulg

Yes you glue the balsa onto the TE and then slot for the hinges.

Yes thank you. I did some hunting around and found some pics of other builds people had done and its coming together now.
