So...for my personal planes...I use the barrel hinges from Dubro. Alex, who is building his first Airfoilz...probably doesn't have the patience to do the barrel hinge...and I am not a fan of the current hinge in the kit. So...is blend-derm tape OK for the Edge? I cannot see it pulling out...and much tougher than barrel hinges or nylon plastic hinges for that matter.

Great to see young Alex getting into it!
I've seen Blenderm used on a huge range of planes, (Large and Small) i cant see why it wouldn't work in this case?
(I am sure there are others on here who can answer this one for you)
p.s. is that Bob Smith CA he is using in that pic?
How do you find it? I had a 'Thin CA' bottle and kicker and found it to be rather 'inferior' to the more common brands like Zap etc.

Um...the Bob Smith Stuff is what the local hobby shops sell. I have been thinking about putting an order for some Mercury stuff. A lot of talk about it. I actually have a some Zap too. Not sure I ever noticed the difference...but I wasn't looking for a difference either.

Yah...I know Paul isn't a fan of hinge tape...for precision use...but Alex isn't doing precison yet. :)

Shortly after this he glued himself to the Aileron. LOL

Yep tape hinges are a BIG mistake, the surfaces won't center or hold a trim. I guarantee that.

Paul, I figured you couldn't hold out long on this conversation. :) Well the the nylon hinges are throw-aways...so that leaves Barrel hinges. Pain the butt...but they work well, and cost extra. I'm a big fan with everything on these planes, except when you changed out the hinges. But hey, I spend $2 and fix the oversight. :) You can't make everyone happy all the time.

So after fuming about the hinges...let me lay on you two Compliments....
(1) The TWO ARFS came in the box 100% good, ready to rock. You guys do a nice job of saving me time!!! Excellant!!!
(2) The Hardware kits are Greats (minus the hinges).
(3) My son watched the videos (I watched a bit). These are REALLY well done and really add to your product. Kick butt!!!
So make that three compliments and one copmplaint. Hey..that what friends are for. We tell you the good and bad...even if you don't want to hear it!
