Ok,
I think the part where they describe how to glue the spare in the manual should be explained with a closer photo showing the position of the spar.
I just glued it in the wrong position... now after paying 111.00 CAD with shipping I have to spend another 40 US plus shipping to get another set of wings.
Is there a way to buy only the wings? and not everything?
I'm really pissed off, this is not my first build I can't believe it...
This plane is going to cost me a lot of $$$...

Next time assemble the spar, measure from end to end and mark the center. After that mark out 10 inches from the center on each side. This is where you start the taper to the end of the spar. Don't be concerned if your spar is an inch or two short just be sure and mark the center and the fore and aft positions on both the center and the wing tip. Tapering the spar make it much easier to rotate the spar into position after applying adhesive of choice, I used 15 minute epoxy.

Taper how? By shortening the height of the spar? The width of the spar caps? Not sure what part of the spar you are supposed to taper.
Thanks in advance.
You can taper the width of the spar cap at the tips to save a few grams of weight. Currently, I don't taper them. I just slightly sand the edges and the ends so the spar can be slipped into the wing more easily.

I struggled assembling my first wing and thought that I was going to twist the spar in two is was so tight. I did manage to get it rotated but only by inserting my fingers in the wing tip and separating the upper and lower surfaces. After I got the spar in, I noticed that I had creased the wing just in front of the trailing edge from the wing tip in about two inches. I then read Gary's message about tapering the spar and I did that starting about 4 or 5 inches from the wing tip. Not much, just a little, but this worked fantastic. What I also did to make it easier was I had a piece of balsa like the spar center section and when I dry fitted the spar in the wing, before I removed it I slide this piece in through the wing tip as close to the leading edge as I could and then removed the spar. This kept the center of the wing open and then when I re-inserted the spar with the glue, it was very easy to slide in and rotate and position the wing as needed. Once I had the wing and spar positioned correctly, I slid the temporary spacer out through the wing tip. This worked really well. I would definitely do it that way again. I was so much easier.
I have successfully installed the spar just by applying PU glue on the top and bottom of the web and sliding them in place. No need to turn them on their side and twist them into position. Just make sure you lightly sand the edges and ends of the spar to keep it from catching on the foam inside the wing as you slide it in place. Test fit the spars first without glue to make sure everything fits properly.

Sorry to hear you had some grief with your first build. :(
I'm no expert, but have built quite a few foamies, and after building my first Airfoilz (540) recently, i thought the instructions were by far the most straight forward set i have come across.
The 'Spar' section was defintely the most complicated/nerve racking part of the build, after following the manual closely (reading it multiple times) i was left amazed at how well this plane went together (especially the main wing!).
Flying them is amazing!
Make me look better alot than I am! :D
I have the Yak coming from Sky Hobbies next week..... Cant Wait! :)
Good luck with the next attemp Binary, i am sure you will nail it this time!
paulg I will mail you the wings for free, I sent you a email.
I think that is great also! Thumbs Up!

Hey guys,
This is my first post. So be nice!!!HAHA!!
That was definetly the worst part of building this Edge 540. The other problem I encountered is that the trailing edge of the wing, the way it was glued was'nt just at the tips of the TE. It went about 1/4" up further so theres a weird airfoil to the wing. I hope it flys alright..
This is my first foamy and so far it hasnt been bad to build. I'm using it mostly to help with the 3d stuff, get it lower.. So I wont be to scared with my 30% BME Yak,or my Extreme Flight 74"Yak!!:D

Sorry, I don't think anything is going to remove the fear of bringing the BME or EF Yak on a low knife edge... Your knee's will need braces:p
I too found the directions very detailed, and found that sanding down the ends of the caps did help them to slide into place.
The build video's are also very helpful.

I was very worried about the glue but with the help of the video's my wing went smooth!!! Accept I forgot to measure for the total length of the spar :0
I quickly cut and glued the other wing.... smooooth!!
