Hi All,
Well I finally got my bipe together and got good weather to maiden the bipe. I had questions earlier about the CG but I now have that sorted out and have flown about 10 flights on the bipe and it flies real nice. Here are some of my observations.
It is slower rolling than my AF Yak and I thought it would roll as fast or faster considering it has more ailerons, but it also has more wing area which may counteract this. If you have both, is that your observation as well? I have the ailerons not quite but almost at 45 degrees. All other movement is fantastic. Lots of elevator and rudder control. Very nice.
Knife edge is incredible. If you get the angle right, you almost do not need to use rudder. And when you do need rudder, very little is needed. Not that I am skilled enough to do them but you can see where a knife edge loop would be very possible. Lots of rudder authority.
I have to land on tarmac or get bigger wheels as the plane just wants to roll on its nose on the grass. The yak did not have this problem.
What prop are you using on the bipe. I have the Torque 2830T with the APC 10x5 prop and to keep the bipe in hover I am at 3/4 throttle and the pull out is kinda slow. The yak I hover at about 1/2 and putting it to full throttle and it just climbs out of sight. So I need to find a way to get more power out of my set up. The plane weights 21.5 ounces without battery and I am running either TP 2070 SX or Visero 2100's. Is this average weight? What about the wood props? Are they any better?
Other than that, I loved how the plane flies. I got a lot of great comments on how well it flies for a foamy, even in the wind. Everyone was shocked to see that it has a profile wing. There was another guy there with a flat foamy and he had to quit flying it because he was getting blown all over the place but the bipe and yak had no problems. I actually like flying in at least a little wind as landings are a harrier down to the deck. :)
I started out in calm weather this morning and by noon, it was blowing 10 to 15 mph and the bipe almost did not notice it except when you were hovering and the plane would drift across the length of the flying field in about 10 seconds.:D
Yea, I really like how the Airfoilz planes fly. Lots of fun and great performance. Keep up the good work Paul.
