....to my first Airfoilz Yak. I was getting ready to head up north for the weekend on Friday around noon so I got up early and went out to the airfield shortly after dawn for some flying in zero wind and blue skies. I was really having a blast. I was doing knife edges like there was no tomorrow, hovers that were like it was hanging on a string, and really getting decent with the rolling harriers. Also I have been getting lower and lower while doing these stunts and while I was on my forth battery, I got too near the ground, clipped a wing and as they say, the rest is history. Bummer. :( I had my new Bipe with me that morning but decided to not fly it and just take it home so that I would only smash one plane on that day and not two!!! :eek: (what a chicken...hehehe)

I have had this plane for about a year. It was my second plane, but my first aileron plane (first plane was a Combat Wing) and the plane that got me hooked on 3D. I only got a few flights on her last fall before the snows came and really liked the way it flew but did nothing more than a few rolls and such. Then I worked out on the G3.5 all winter and when spring came, I came out flying like gangbusters and was doing all kinds of 3D stuff pretty well with it. I have been really getting pretty decent and have been getting a lot of complements about the Yak and how well it seems to fly in any kind of weather and how good I have been flying from many of the long time fliers in our club (which is nice since I have been only flying for about 6 months total).

I was going to replace her this winter anyway as I had broke off the rudder once, the elevator once, and nosed it in a few times and she was started to looked like it was rode hard and put away wet. I will build this one better and hopefully it will fly even better.

Great plane. I will miss it.....until the new one shows up at the door and then it will be "what old Yak?" :D

That is a bummer...Sorry do see her bite the dust! I have yet to push the 3-D stuff all the way down to the hard deck just yet...

I'd fly that again. A little gorilla glue, and a couple carbon strips, your in the air again. These are tough birds. Mine broke in the same spot, except for the horizontal stab.
Still flies great.

Yup, I would fix it and be a thrasher that you would not have to worry about smacking up again =) Consider it a "free plane" from now and and don't hold back =)

Most of that will buff right out! :p

+1 with Hogger and Woody on the repair and thrash idea. (if you can afford to get another power set)

Falcon (forum member) had a similar plight, and repaired his like new!
Here's the post;

Yup, I would fix it and be a thrasher that you would not have to worry about smacking up again =) Consider it a "free plane" from now and and don't hold back =)I laughed when I read this. One of the reasons I was starting to get low with my stunts was that the plane, like I said earlier, was starting to look tired and I figured now was a good a time as any to hit the ground. :rolleyes:

But even though it look like that, I have a guy at our club that is a really good flier (he flies large gassers) and he flew it and said it was set up and flying really good. Not bad considering that it had smacked the ground at least 5 times prior to that and had the rudder and elevators broke and glued back on with hot glue and the rudder was a little crooked and I would not have figured that it was flying very true any longer.

I wonder if Paul has ever considered making these with carbon instead of balsa in the fuse? Would it be more durable for hits like this? Or would the carbon be too heavy? Not worth the extra cost?

It would be expensive with carbon in the fuse and it woudl still break in the long run. Looks to be an easy fix with a little time and some PU glue. Liek others say.... fix it up and fly the pants off it!
