Hi all,
I just finished my build and after programing the ESC as per instructions, which is confusing because on page 1 it states clearly that switch 1 should be off for default settings but when you look at the illustration it shows default is in the "on" position:confused: Anyway, I plug in the battery and the motor beeps high and low tones continually and all the servos twitch violently. This happens with the radio on or off. I tried the program switch in on and off position with the same results.
This is my second electric so I'm familiar with how things should be connected and how things should work. Did I do something wrong or am I dealing with defective hardware? Please help me figure this out.

HUH more info PLZ what is your setup off hand I would say your crystal is wrong or not all the way in.

Oh yeah sorry, I guess that would help:rolleyes: I got the Scorpion Combo with the Hitec 05MS receiver and the crystal, the motor is the Scorpion S-2215-18 and the ESC is the Scorpion 35A Commander. The battery is the Vislero 3-cell 1300mah. I wanted to get the "tried and true" package and not have to worry about matching components.
By the way Michael, your video flying the 540 on the lake is why I got this plane, I was just blown away by your ability and that a foamy could fly like. After that video I started to practice flying 3D and I've not looked back since. I'm hoping this plane will help me hone my skills in real life flying as much as the simulator has in virtual flying. So it’s nice to be able to say thanks for the inspiration Mikey! :D

That is a receiver issue or transmitter issue. That is an auto shift Receiver so thats not it. Receiver might be bad out of the box. What transmitter do you have? Can you post a pick of how it is all hooked up?

First thing I would do is check the crystal: Make sure that it is all the way in...Second: Double check that all of the servo leads are in the correct position in the RX.

If you can select ppm or pcm on the transmitter make sure you selected ppm.

On the side of the receiver it shows positive and negative for the right way to plug them in.

Give a flight report.
Thanks again guys for the help resolving my radio problem. I did make it to the field yesterday for the maiden flight and all went well. Winds were low maxing out at around 5mph, all around great day for the first flight. I dialed in 20% ail and elev for low rates and 50% for mid, but left the rudd at 100% for all rates. I also dialed in about -40 expo to soften things up a bit.
Initial take off was very smooth on low rates. She needed only one click left ail and one up elev. I quickly got bored of the low rates and was itchin’ to try some of the things I had practiced on Real Flight. I switched to mid flight mode and wow what a difference! I was able to do a few torque rolls and even an inverted flat spin… well sort of, it was a bit sloppy but still looked better than I had ever done before with my Twist. Waterfalls were really sloppy, she just snapped out to the left every time. I think when I get used to the plane things will smooth out a bit. Oh yeah, this definitely has the potential of becoming the favorite plane in my hanger.
There is however a big difference in the way the sim plane and the real life plane handles, but I think most of that is the controller. On Real Flight, and using the interlink controller, it takes less stick movements than on my 9C. I seem to have to almost peg the sticks to get the same responses that I’m used to seeing on the sim. There probably is a way to fix that but I haven’t had time to experiment much with the 9C to find out. I’ve only been at this for a couple of years but I’m learning every day. Of course, any input is always appreciated. :D

First thing. Where do you have your CG? This is the cause of the sloppy waterfall. If you are looking for all out 3-D you need to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 1/2" - 4 1/2" from the leading edge. One tip on this...move it a 1/4" at a time...trust me on this one...flying the Edge VERY TAIL HEAVY is TRICKY:eek: Also make sure your battery is as close to the wing as possible.
Second, I have my edge set-up at 125% on high rates and 75% using 30% expo. If there is not enough throw it may feel a little sluggish.

Wow, that far back!... no wonder. Okay, I found my CG machine and it looks like I started out at about 3 3/4. But when I inverted, she climbed, so I landed and moved the CG forward to maybe 3 1/4, and thats when I tried the waterfalls. Looks like I'll need to reposition my velcro.
So your saying that your end points are set at 125% which is your high rates and your mid or low rates are set at 75% of that, all with 30% expo? did I get that right?

That is correct! How much was it climbing when she was inverted? Move it just a bit at a time! 75% is still a lot of throw...I might drop down to 50% for take-offs and pattern flying.

I won't be able to try it till Friday afternoon. With the time change, by the time I get off work it's usually dark:( But I'll be sure to let you know how things work out. I'll try and get some pics posted so you can see the setup:)

Better late than never:) Posting pics is a bit confusing but they're not that good anyway, wifey has my camera so I had to make due with my phone cam.
Okay so I finally got to the field on Saturday and the winds were low I mounted the battery at the point you see on the pic and she went straight up! got her back down okay and moved the batt forward about a 1/4 in, she flew a bit better then. But, after trimming for level flight inverted she wanted to climb hard so I ended up bringing it a bit more forward. I think I may have found the right spot were both level and inverted flight is relatively equal.
At the end of the day I got tired of being scared of damaging the plane so I said F*&^k it and went for it... Hight rates, no expo and no fear I slamed the throttle forward and pulled back the elevator and she shot strait up into a nice hover 20 feet in front of me and about 10 feet up and I just hung there. Mind you this was the first time I've ever done that with any plane other than the Sim. Unfortunately my euphoria was short lived when a gust of wind wobbeled my plane and my nerves and although I made a valiant attemp to stay in controll I ended up gently putting it in the high grass. I was going to try again but the impact dislodged the rudder controll horn. I don't think using CA and Kicker for the controll horns is a good idea as the instructions say, I think it's just to brittle so I used Gorilla glue this time.
Anyway, gonna try again this afternoon. Now that I know I can do it... all I need is real life practice

The Edge will hover all day...I found it helpful to pratice hovers at about 30-50' just to get used to it;) I am not pulling off any tail touches just yet...

Yeah, I've been doin that for about a year with a U-CAN-DO and my Twist but I never had the guts to bring em down on the deck. But with the edge I'm not that worried, and the controll surfaces are so much bigger on the edge. One thing I noticed is that you need much more deflection than I ever thought to accomplish 3D. I'm so glad I found this plane, I've been in kind of a slump lately, I felt like I wasn't improving in my 3D skills, but now I can see I just needed the right plane to practice with. Im looking forward to going to the field again.:D Thanks for all the help and advice.

With any glue, you should sand the plastic parts to give a texture for the glue to grip otherwise the plastic parts can pop off. Don't know if you did that.

Keep us posted!! I was in the same slump...that is until I won the Edge;) I still remember the first flight...the only word was WOW! :D I love flying around a few feet from the ground in a harrier...the more you fly the Edge the more you will like it...after the Edge I went to "The Bipe" now the Extra...and Yak...I haven't flown anything else since I went "Airfoilz" Loving every minute of it! Another thing...don't be afraid of flying the Edge in the wind...I almost perfer it now...I have flown in 20+mph with no problem! Makes for some fun vertical landings!!

Yup! did that....The control horn stuck well to the mounting plate but poped off the depron, it didn't damage it one bit, just came off clean. I tried a little pressure on the other horns but they seem stuck tight...dunno, quess I'll see.

Sometimes when transporting if you accidentally shock a surface by hitting it with something to cause a sudden deflection that is enough to break the glue joint. Depron itself is not strong and the glue will keep it, but that is why we penetrate the depron with the control horn and have holes to give more surface area, but using enough glue is very important.
