The Extra 260 kits will now be coming with plywood control horns instead of the plastic ones. These horns are cut out of 1/32" ply and need to be assembled. The horn itself is made from 2 laminations that are glued together to form a 1/16" thickness. The support plate is one thickness of 1/32" ply. The best way to assemble the horn is to slide all the pieces together and then run some thin CA along the horn edges and in the joint between the horn and support. The holes for the clevis needs to be drilled out and then hardened with thin CA. The horns can be either epoxied or CA'd in place on the control surface. I always add a small fillet of glue between the horn and the support plate for added support.

For the pull-pull rudder horn, only put on one support plate while gluing the horn parts together. Add the second support plate after the horn has been positioned on the rudder, before the glue sets.

Too bad the instructions provided or the instructions posted on the website don't state this. As a result, I used only a single (1/32") piece for the hornes on my build. Sure hope they work.

Why not cut them from 1/16" ply so you don't have to laminate?

Great! I'll figure out something to reinforce what I have.

Thank you.

We don't cut them from 1/16" because lamination makes them is 100% stronger.

Did you already install them?

I had already installed the elevator and rudder horns. I took the second piece that was to be laminated to the first, cut off the part that is inserted into the Depron, and glued it to the installed horn. It worked fine. Just would have been easier if the instructions had stated the need to laminate before installation.

What you did will work fine.

Thanks a lot.

No problem...that is what we are here for;)
If you need any more help just ask! Take your time...I found it helpful to have someone hold the rudder straight or tape it...this way you can get the cables nice and snug.
