At last....:D I was able to get the maiden flight in this morning. This little beauty is ever bit as agile as my Edge 540. It was so cold I could only get through two batteries before my fingers gave up on me though. These first flights were with an 11X5.5 APC prop on the Scorpion 2215-18. It would fly so slow at about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle you could almost walk behind and keep up. I'll try a 10X4.7 next time out. The only trim needed was several clicks of down elevator, after that she flew straight and level. I think I will need to adjust the ailerons down slightly (I think that is correct?) to take the negative pitch back out the elevator. How has every one else's first flights gone?

OK, I couldn't let it set for another week, so while the batteries were charging I changed the prop to a 10X4.7 and upon a closer inspection noticed that with the radio at 0 trim on the elevator had a slight up angle. Made the adjustment in the linkage, loaded her back up and headed for the ball field. A little warmer this time but with light snow and a bit of a breeze this time. The smaller prop made quite a difference, much more responsive and the elevator adjustment was just right. Two more batteries and I froze out again. What a blast! :D

Just a little warning to all of us out there running the 3014 or 3008...at WOT this thing spings like a high speed blender!! We were counting 3 rolls per second on high rates!! Makes it easy to end up on the wrong side if you aren't careful! Stay tuned for more video of the Extra!!

Hi guys. I just receveived my replacement parts since I got an incomplete and damaged kit. The guys were great in replacing the parts. The problem is I had planed, hoped, to take the new 260 on my vacation to Mexico since were I'm going there is nothing but open fields. That is ok, but I can't wait to come back and finish the plane.:(

Why not take the plane with you and finish it up while you are there? I hate when the post office decides to crush my package:eek:  Thankfully we have Paul to take care of us when this does happen:D How much do you have left on your build??

I need the fuse assembly, the plywood. You must not be married. My wife and kids would kill me. If im lucky I will get to fly one of my other fomies. Besides , I like to take my time and do things right, I'm kind of anal when it comes to my planes, I try to build as light as possible and detail.

Got it!! The build took about 8-10 hours...but like you I really take my time and make sure everything is perfect!
I am married and have a 12 year old daughter!! As long as we are not flying somewhere on vacation I always bring at least 2 planes! Most of our trips are hitting the dunes or the coast...in the Toy Hauler...room for 4 quads...and as many planes as I can stack in the bedroom...me and the wife have a deal...when she is ready to leave...I can put in as many planes that I can fit!;)

I've got a 9year old girl and a 11month boy. We are visiting her Family and have time to fly but not to build. Besides there is no space.

I have a hard time going anywhere on vacation without a plane! At least you have something good to look forward to when you get back;)
The full body 260 is my first RC aircraft in nearly thirty years. After having another pilot trim it out for me I took my first flight today. I am very impressed. I had the controls set with probably less than a third of the normal setup. This aircraft flies slow and very smooth. I can also confirm that it is very durable as I managed to hit a fir tree at approximately the sixty foot level. The plane bounced off and hit the ground with a thud. The foam plate below the motor popped off and the prop broke; an easy repair at worst. Overall, I feel that this is going to be a plane that can grow with me as my experience increases. I couldn't be more pleased. :D
Good Work Airfoilz.

Glad you are enjoying it. You have to try the YAK next. I have about 20 planes in my arsenal but somehow, the YAK always goes to the field with me.
JimV,
Thanks. I am really impressed with the flight characteristics of the 260 and am looking forward to winning the free Yak at the end of the month. ;) I can see me sticking with the Airfoilz line of models for some time.

Make sure you check your motor mount over very well. After a Thud like that you may have some cracks that don't show up for a few flights... but when they let go LOOK OUT!
Don't ask me how I know. ;)
ICON,
Thank you for the heads up. I'll take a good look.

I have to second what Jim mentioned with the Full Fuse Yak-54! I have been flying mine for the past couple of months and is my current favorite! Check out the video...

What equipment do you have in the plane? Motor, battery, ESC? I know you have the 260 as well. How do you compare and contrast the Yak and the 260?
I love my Yak profile but got a 260 and it does not tumble at all. I have moved the CG everywhere and no difference. I got one of the beta planes and before I even flew it I bought a backup 260 because I really like the way it was built and figured it would fly great like my Yak and Bipe. But after I flew the pants off the 260, I built my backup figuring that it was something I did when I built it and it flies the same. It will KE great. hover fine, but I cannot get it to KE spin, waterfalls are big loops, and have only got it to inverted flat spin, never up right.
I am thinking of getting rid of the 260 and getting a FF Yak if it flies more like my profile Yak.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,

Running HS-65 all around. Running a Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A with the matching TURNIGY Plush 25amp ESC with 10X4.7 SF prop. I like the 1800-2100's 3S the best! Really allows the Yak to tumble! I still love the 260 but after flying the Yak...I am not flying the 260's as much! The profile Yak and the Full Fuse Yak are night and day...Airfoilz really nailed it with the Full Fuse Yak! I will get more video but this thing really rocks! Spins...tumbles...waterfalls...really anything! While the Extra 260 tracks a little cleaner due to the longer fuse...the Yak is my new favorite of all of the Airfoilz.:D
