I recently built the Extra 260. Only one flight so far..weather is not being kind. The Scorpion that came with the combo deal seems to run good, but has a fair amount of side to side play in the motor shaft. Kind of like the something is loose in the bearings. When revved up, if I yaw or pitch the plane, the motor makes a rather loud whine. I assume from the gyroscopic effect of the prop working on the bearings. I noticed this on the one flight during a snap roll. Straight flight it sounds normal and has decent power.

I only have one other electric motor, an eflight 370. It does not have this play and it does not make the whine when yaw or pitch is changed.

Is there some way to tighten the Scorpion? The motor has only one flight and has never been damaged. It came out of the box this way.

I am new to electric flight and I appreciate any advice others might have.

Thanks

Darcey

I haven't noticed any play in my Scorpion (and I have close to 100 flights on mine)...but it does sound different than any other motor I used. A good friend of mine has the same Scorpion and it sounds the same but no issues with performance...try here; http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/
they should be able to help you...Lucien has been a big help in the past!;)

PS: How did you like it? The Extra 260 that is:D

Bighead93, Thanks for the contact info. I wrote to Lucien at http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com and he was back with a quick reply. Possibly bad bearing which they will replace. Excellent response and concern.

With only 1 flight I have limited experience to report on the 260. It was mostly a trim flight. The plane flew with a very light feeling. Needed a little down trim for level flight. Then when inverted, it wanted to climb..so I need to work on the aileron position.

Very nice fit of the parts on the entire build. I can't wait for this weather to break so I can get some real stick time with it.

Not a problem! If you have any questions or need help with anything just ask;) Glad to hear that Lucien got you all squared away...and thankfully you didn't have a motor failure in the air:eek:

If the weather holds up I will be flying my Extra for the first time this weekend and can hardly wait! Keep us posted as you get more flights with yours...
