How do I apply the decals on the full fuselage YAK54?

There are no instructions on how to go about applying any of the decals on this airplane. They are outlined as if you should cover the entire surface of the fuselage and wings with the decals. Is this the intent or do you cut out the stripes and so forth? Seems like it might be extra weight to do the entire decal. Then again how would you only cut out the stripes and lettering and make it work?

I cut the outline and went from there. They also add alot of durability I think
